Casey’s CCNY semester long courses include the following:
Acting 3 (THTR 23601) - Acting 3 is a progression from Acting 1 & 2. Students will gain a strong dexterity with heightened theatrical texts, rooted in strong acting and vocal technique. Throughout the semester, students will work on both classical and modern dramatic texts, with the goal to marry classical and heightened texts and traditions with modern acting technique for professional utility. Classes will include preparation work, and exercises to develop classical and modern theatrical technique. Students will apply this technique through active exploration of a range of textual and imaginative material, including monologues and/or soliloquies, scenes, sonnets, choric passages, and sensory work.
Speech for the Stage (THTR 12700) - This course provides a thorough exploration of the voice in the context of communication. This course provides a progression of exercises to free, develop, and strengthen the voice, first as a human instrument, then as an actor’s instrument. There is a focus on physical and breath awareness, vibration awareness, freeing vibrations, resonance, breath control, work with the jaw, tongue and soft palette, articulation, and connection to impulse and creativity. This work will be explored through technique exercises and practical application to text work.
Theatre History 1 (THTR 21100) - This course seeks to facilitate an introduction to theatre history by exploring some of the origins of world theatre through to the Renaissance period, examining both theatrical periods and seminal texts. An emphasis is placed on theatrical texts as the core of the curriculum; both within their respective historical contexts as well as analyzing form and dramatic structure from a performative and literary perspective.
